What tour did you travel on?

German Fairytale Christmas

When did you travel?

December, 2016

Why did you select this particular tour?

This was a wonderful opportunity to experience a true German Christmas in the Northern Hemisphere. With luck we hoped to see snow.

Who did you travel with?

My wife, Suzanne.

Have you travelled with Albatross Tours previously?

No, this was our first tour.

What was your favourite places on your Albatross tour?

The Christmas markets of the towns along the Romantic Road were all dressed in their best festive decorations and lights. A Nightwatchman draped in a flowing black cloak and boots escorted us back to the Middle Ages in the medieval town of Rothenburg and brought the old town to life.

What was the most amazing thing you saw or did on your Albatross tour?

Photographing snow covered fields surrounding Neuschwanstein Castle proved that King Ludwig’s dream of constructing a fairy-tale castle was indeed possible.

Tell us about your most memorable moment on tour?

Hearing “Silent Night” sung in German on Christmas Eve and feeling the snow crunch under our feet as we walked back to our warm hotel in Fussen.

What was your favourite meal on tour?

Christmas dinner at Hopfensee featured a crystal-clear panorama of the Allgau Alps reflected on the mirror surface of the ice-covered lake outside our dining room.

What advice do you have for anyone interested in travelling on this tour?

Dressing with layers will hold you in good stead while exploring the Christmas markets or ascending 890 metres on the Tegelburg cable car to view the breathtaking scenery.

Would you recommend this tour to family and friends? If so, why?

Yes, this is a well-paced tour which allows Australians to absorb a true European Christmas experience.
